On Voting Booths and Other Mirages

In the spirit of the election season, here’s an exchange between Punk Patriot, who supports the Green Party candidate, and ALLy Nick Ford, who responds to the suggestion that not voting is implicit consent and that an individual’s vote has any meaningful impact.

My suggestion is that electoral voting is the least influential political act you can take. Quoting my friend Chris Howe, “Your vote does not count. However, if you are engaged in your community, talk to your neighbors and stand on your principles, your influence might.” Those are the kinds of things we can do to change our culture without having to get anyone’s permission.
